A LetterTrack alternative for letters you mail with a stamp

LetterTrack and PigeonTrail work the same way underneath: each prints a USPS barcode on an envelope you stamp yourself, and USPS scans it as the letter is sorted. This page is about what PigeonTrail adds for LetterTrack users, and the table at the end compares the two using only what LetterTrack publishes.

A #10 envelope printed by PigeonTrail with the return address at the top left, a box for the Forever stamp, and the buyer's address with a USPS barcode above it.

What stays the same when you switch

You keep mailing the way you do now. You print the envelope or label on your own printer, put a Forever stamp on it and drop it in the mail, and nobody needs a postage account. The barcode is a USPS Intelligent Mail barcode, the same kind of barcode LetterTrack prints, so the letter gets the same scans on the same USPS machines.

The orders come in the same way too. If you export a file from TCGplayer, eBay or Shopify today, PigeonTrail reads that same file, checks every address against USPS data and prints one envelope per order, combining two orders to the same buyer into one letter when you want.

A monthly allowance instead of prepaid packs

LetterTrack charges for each label from a pack you buy ahead, and PigeonTrail gives every account 100 letters a month for free. If you mail more, Pro costs $12.99 a month and covers 500 letters, which is about 2.6 cents a letter when you use them all, and each letter past 500 costs 2 cents. Sellers who would rather not have a plan can buy credits at 10 cents a letter.

A pack has one real advantage. If you mail in bursts, a few hundred letters at a show and then nothing for months, you pay only for what you print and there is no monthly charge to remember. PigeonTrail's free 100 covers a lot of slow months, and you can cancel Pro any time.

What your buyer sees

Every PigeonTrail letter gets its own tracking page with your shop's logo, tagline and colors at the top. It shows the route the letter has taken across a map of the cities USPS scanned it in, and the day USPS expects it to arrive, counted from USPS's own delivery standard for the two ZIP codes.

The buyer tracking page on a phone for a shop called Dragon Cards: its logo, the words your letter is on its way, USPS expects it by Thursday, October 22, and a map of the route from Austin to Columbus.

LetterTrack emails the sender and the recipient at each scan. PigeonTrail sends fewer emails on purpose. On the Free plan your buyer gets one email from PigeonTrail at the first USPS scan with the link to the page, and if you're on Pro, your buyer hears from your shop's name when the letter is mailed, when it's almost there and when USPS marks it delivered. Every email has a link to stop them, and none go out at night.

How each one describes a delivered letter

Both services receive the same delivered event from USPS for a letter. LetterTrack's site calls it Delivered in Mailbox and describes it as the time a postal truck carrying the letter passed the mailbox. USPS's own guide to this data calls the same event an implied delivery: USPS records it when the carrier's scanner leaves the area of the address's ZIP+4 on the route, because nobody scans a letter at the mailbox.

PigeonTrail shows that event as "USPS marked it delivered" and tells your buyer in one sentence what it means, so a buyer who has not opened the mailbox yet is not told their letter is inside it. Our guide to what each USPS scan means covers every event a letter can get.

When a letter runs late or goes missing

PigeonTrail compares every letter with the day USPS expects it. A letter that is more than a day past that date, or that goes five days without a scan, is flagged in your letters list, and if you're on Pro we also email you about it. When a letter is lost, one click prints a replacement with a new barcode, and the old tracking page sends your buyer to the new one.

If a buyer opens a claim, Pro gives you a one page mailing record for the letter with the address check and every USPS scan. On Free or pay as you go, a mailing record costs 20 credits.

Questions

What does LetterTrack cost per letter?

LetterTrack sells prepaid packs of labels: 50 for $16, 100 for $28, 250 for $60, 500 for $105 and 1,000 for $180, which works out to 32 cents down to 18 cents a letter. New accounts get 5 labels free. These are the prices on LetterTrack's pricing page on October 18, 2026.

Is LetterTrack legit?

Yes. LetterTrack sells tracking for stamped mail, and its scans come from USPS, the same way PigeonTrail's do. Both services print a USPS Intelligent Mail barcode and read the scans USPS reports for it.

Does eBay accept a LetterTrack or PigeonTrail number?

No. eBay does not accept tracking from a letter barcode service as valid tracking for its seller protections, and sellers on the eBay Community board report the same for LetterTrack. That is true for PigeonTrail too. For eBay orders under $20, eBay Standard Envelope is the label eBay counts, and our eBay Standard Envelope guide explains when to use it.

Which marketplaces does each one import from?

LetterTrack's site lists eBay, Etsy, TCGplayer, Shopify and ShipStation. PigeonTrail brings Mana Pool orders in by itself, connects to a Shopify store, and reads the order files you export from TCGplayer, eBay and Shopify.

Can I use LetterTrack and PigeonTrail at the same time?

Yes, as long as each envelope carries one barcode. If you have LetterTrack labels left, you can use them up on some orders and print the rest from PigeonTrail.
