The three lines: $20, $49.99 and $250
TCGplayer's shipping guidelines set the rules by the value of the order. The wording matters, so here it is as TCGplayer writes it:
| Order value | What TCGplayer says |
|---|---|
| Over $20 | "Any orders over $20.00 in value should include Tracking / Delivery Confirmation for your own protection." |
| Over $49.99 | "Any orders over $49.99 in value MUST be shipped with Tracking / Delivery Confirmation." |
| Over $250 | "Any orders over $250.00 in value MUST be shipped with Signature Confirmation." |
The same page says a seller who skips these guidelines "waives the ability to win any disputes if the customer says the package did not arrive." To be protected, TCGplayer wants a carrier that is integrated with its Seller Portal, which today means USPS, UPS or FedEx.
What counts as tracking over $49.99
For an order over $49.99, TCGplayer's Safeguard covers a missing package only when it went with USPS, UPS or FedEx and the tracking shows that it "moved beyond 'Acceptance'/'Label Created' status." In practice that means a package label, and for a few cards the usual choice is USPS Ground Advantage in a small bubble mailer. Bought online at commercial prices, a Ground Advantage label for up to 4 ounces costs $7.33 to $8.95 depending on distance, on USPS's price list in effect since October 4, 2026.
TCGplayer's help pages do not mention the USPS barcode that letter tracking tools print on stamped envelopes, and nothing on them says such a barcode counts. Treat it as not counting. A letter barcode tells you and your buyer where the letter is, and a package label is what TCGplayer's rule asks for.
Untracked orders under $50, and the August 2026 change
Below $50, most card sellers mail a plain white envelope with a stamp and no carrier tracking. On August 17, 2026, TCGplayer expanded its Safeguard to cover those orders for established sellers. The rules, from the Safeguard help page and TCGplayer's announcement:
- It applies to sellers based in the United States or a U.S. territory with 1,000 or more lifetime orders. TCGplayer's announcement says you can see your count on the Seller Portal home page, in the Feedback table, in the Count row under Lifetime.
- It covers untracked orders of $49.99 or less placed on or after August 17, 2026. Orders over $49.99 still need tracking.
- You refund the buyer first, then escalate the order's message thread or contact TCGplayer no later than 60 calendar days after the estimated delivery date, and TCGplayer credits you for the order.
- TCGplayer says the coverage stays "until we are able to implement an improved tracking solution which sellers will be able to use."
For a seller past 1,000 orders, that takes most of the money risk out of a lost envelope. It does not stop the messages from buyers asking where an order is, which is what a tracking page and a scan history help with.
How fast you have to ship
TCGplayer quotes its Marketplace Seller Agreement on this: "All orders must be shipped to customers within 48 hours. All orders must reach the Buyer within the quoted delivery time indicated by the estimated delivery date." TCGplayer will block negative feedback about a late or missing package when the order shipped within those 48 hours, the seller resolved it with a refund or a replacement, and the tracking shows a "picked up," "acceptance" or "in transit" status.
A stamped letter gets no acceptance scan when you drop it in a collection box, because USPS first scans letters at its sorting plants. To see how many days USPS gives a letter between your ZIP code and a buyer's, use the free letter delivery time tool.
How TCGplayer asks you to pack a card
TCGplayer's guidelines walk through the same steps most sellers already use. Put the card in a soft sleeve, then into a top loader with the sleeve's opening facing down, which TCGplayer says is "highly recommended." It also accepts sandwiching the card between rigid material such as cardboard. A team bag around the top loader is "the most preferred and professional way" to keep the card from sliding out, and tape on the top of the top loader also works. Then it goes in "a bubble mailer or secure envelope," and TCGplayer adds: "Never ship a card in an envelope with no protection."
One thing to watch: a card taped between two pieces of cardboard can make a letter too stiff to bend, and a letter that is too stiff owes USPS's $0.49 nonmachinable surcharge and loses most of its scans. The letter checker tells you which way your mailer goes, and our guide to shipping cards in a plain white envelope covers the packing in detail.
Marking orders shipped and uploading tracking
TCGplayer lets you mark orders shipped in bulk by uploading your own Export Shipping file again with a tracking column filled in. For a package, the tracking number goes there. For a stamped letter there is no carrier tracking number, so the order is marked shipped by USPS with the tracking column left empty. Never put a letter barcode's number in that column, because TCGplayer shows it to the buyer as a carrier tracking number and it won't look up on usps.com.
PigeonTrail builds that shipped file for you after it prints a batch, and it moves orders of $50 or more to a separate package list for Pirate Ship, so they never go out as letters by mistake. Tracked envelopes for TCGplayer orders shows the whole flow.
What buyers pay for shipping
Sellers set their own shipping fees on TCGplayer, with one floor: since May 26, 2026, an order under $5 pays at least $1.49 for shipping. That covers a stamped letter with room to spare, since a 1 ounce letter costs $0.82 with a Forever stamp.
Questions
Do TCGplayer orders need tracking?
Orders over $49.99 must ship with tracking from USPS, UPS or FedEx, and orders over $250 need Signature Confirmation. Orders over $20 should have tracking, in TCGplayer's words, for your own protection, but it is not required.
Can I ship TCGplayer orders without tracking?
Yes, for orders of $49.99 or less. If you have 1,000 or more lifetime orders and you're based in the US, TCGplayer's Safeguard credits you for a missing untracked order placed on or after August 17, 2026, once you refund the buyer and ask within 60 days of the estimated delivery date.
What counts as tracking over $50?
A USPS, UPS or FedEx tracking number that shows the package moved past Acceptance or Label Created. TCGplayer's pages do not mention letter barcodes, so a stamped envelope with a barcode does not meet the rule.
How fast must I ship a TCGplayer order?
Within 48 hours. TCGplayer's Marketplace Seller Agreement says all orders must be shipped within 48 hours and reach the buyer by the estimated delivery date.
How do I upload tracking to TCGplayer?
Upload your Export Shipping file again with the tracking numbers filled in, or type them into each order. For a stamped letter, mark the order shipped by USPS and leave the tracking number empty.
