Tracked letters for Wix orders

When you connect your Wix store, PigeonTrail brings in your paid orders that haven't been fulfilled and prints each one on an envelope with the address and a USPS barcode, so you can follow every letter scan by scan. Each printed letter marks its order fulfilled in Wix with the link to the letter's tracking page saved on it, and when the order carries the buyer's email, we send your buyer that link at the first USPS scan.

How do I connect Wix to PigeonTrail?

You connect from the Connections page in PigeonTrail, where the Wix card has a Connect Wix button once the connection is open for your account. The button takes you to Wix, where you sign in as the site owner, pick the site your store runs on and add the PigeonTrail app to it. Wix then sends you back to PigeonTrail, and we check with Wix that the app really is on your site before we save anything.

PigeonTrail is a private Wix app that we share by its own install link, so you won't find it by searching the Wix App Market. Wix never gives us your Wix password. We keep the key Wix gives us for your site encrypted, and we use it only to read your orders and mark them fulfilled.

If the Wix card isn't on your Connections page yet, you can still bring Wix orders in through ShipStation, which connects to Wix stores, or by typing an order in on the Send page.

How do Wix orders get into PigeonTrail?

Press Import from Wix on the Orders tab of the Send page, and PigeonTrail brings in the orders on your site that are paid and not fulfilled yet, each one once. It uses the order's shipping address and leaves out pickup orders, archived orders, orders that are already partly fulfilled, and orders with nothing to mail, like digital downloads. Each address is checked against USPS data before anything prints, and an address USPS can't match is flagged so you can fix it with the buyer. PigeonTrail mails only to addresses in the United States.

You can also let new orders come in by themselves. On the Connections page, tick Automatically pull new orders every 15 minutes on the Wix card, and PigeonTrail checks your store every 15 minutes, so the orders are waiting when you sit down to print.

When the buyer chose a tracked shipping option whose name says Priority Mail, Ground Advantage, Media Mail, UPS or FedEx, the order goes straight to a separate Packages list instead of your letters. Orders of $50 or more go there too, with a file you upload to Pirate Ship to buy Ground Advantage labels, and you can change that $50 line in Settings or turn it off. When Pirate Ship's shipments file comes back, each package is marked fulfilled in Wix with its carrier and its real tracking number.

How do I print tracked envelopes?

Pick the orders, choose what to print on and print from your own printer. PigeonTrail prints #10, #9, #6 3/4, A7 and 6 x 9 envelopes, Avery 5163 address sheets, 4 x 2 and 4 x 6 thermal labels, and a window slip that folds into a #10 window envelope. Each one carries the buyer's address and a USPS Intelligent Mail barcode in the places USPS's machines read them, with your return address and, if you like, your logo. You add a Forever stamp, which is $0.82 for a 1 ounce letter, and drop the letters in the mail.

The barcode only gets scanned when the letter goes through USPS's sorting machines, so keep it flat and flexible. Our letter checker tells you whether a mailer counts as a letter, whether it is machinable and how many stamps it needs.

What happens in Wix after I print?

Each letter you print adds a fulfillment to its order in Wix for the items still to ship, so the order shows as fulfilled in your dashboard. A stamped letter has no carrier tracking number, so the fulfillment carries none, and the link to the letter's PigeonTrail tracking page is saved on it instead. Wix's own documentation says a shipping email may go to the buyer when a fulfillment is created, depending on your site's email settings, but it doesn't say that email shows a link saved this way, so we don't count on it to reach your buyer.

A whole print job goes to Wix in one request for up to 100 orders, so even a big print job takes only a few requests. If Wix refuses an order, for example because you already fulfilled it yourself, the Orders page shows Wix's reason next to it.

What does my buyer see?

Every letter gets a tracking page with your shop's logo and colors, a map of the route so far and the day USPS expects it to arrive. Wix orders usually carry the buyer's email address, so we email your buyer that link at the first USPS scan. If you're on Pro, our emails come from your shop's name, and your buyer hears from you when the letter is mailed, when it's almost there and when USPS marks it delivered.

A letter's scans come from USPS's sorting plants, and its delivered event is USPS's estimate from the carrier's route rather than a scan at the mailbox. Our guide to what each USPS scan means explains what your buyer will see.

What if my Wix store also feeds ShipStation?

Connect whichever one you like, or both, and each sale still prints one letter. PigeonTrail matches Wix's own order ID, and when your ShipStation account holds just this one Wix store it matches the order number too, so whichever connection brings an order in first keeps it and the other import skips it.

Questions

Will the Wix order show a tracking number?

No. A stamped letter has no carrier tracking number, so PigeonTrail marks the order fulfilled without one and saves the letter's tracking link on the fulfillment instead. We never send the barcode as a tracking number, because USPS Tracking shows nothing for it on a stamped letter.

What does the PigeonTrail app on my Wix site get to do?

It reads your store's orders, marks them fulfilled after you print, and reads your site's name so the Connections page can show it. It doesn't change your products, your site or your payments.

How do I take PigeonTrail's access away later?

Choose Disconnect on the Connections page and we forget the keys for your site. To take the app off your site too, remove PigeonTrail from the apps in your Wix dashboard, and if you remove it there first, we disconnect the site on our side once Wix tells us the app is gone.

Does PigeonTrail need Wix to work?

No. Wix is one way in, and you can also connect Shopify, eBay, WooCommerce, BigCommerce or ShipStation to PigeonTrail directly, or bring in an order file from TCGplayer, Amazon or Etsy.
